Overview
The system is called octadecanoic acid, which is a saturated fatty acid in organic compounds produced by hydrolysis of fats and oils. Solid state is a waxy solid that is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and acetone, and easily soluble in solvents such as ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, and carbon disulfide.
Applications
Stearic acid has different uses in various fields, such as:
- Heat stabilizers, lubricants, mold release agents, and plasticizers in the plastic industry;
- Vulcanizing agent, softener, and dispersant in the rubber industry;
- Raw materials for making stem wax, tea wax, cup wax, and craft candles in candles;
- Softeners, waterproofing agents, and other additives in the textile printing and dyeing industry;
- Oily raw materials for creams such as snow cream and cold cream in cosmetics, as well as emulsifiers, fat enhancers, softeners, gloss agents, etc;
- Sizing agent and softener in the paper industry;
- Various additives, surfactants, and antibacterial agents in medicine;
- Raw material for solid alcohol in the fuel industry.
